Brian Dashew, Ed.D.

Dr. Brian Dashew is Assistant Dean at Columbia University's School of Professional Studies. Brian has been with the school since 2011.

His career has been focused on higher education instructional design, particularly in the areas of adult learning and online course development. Brian has worked at eCornell (a subsidiary of Cornell University), where he developed a number of certificate programs in the areas of human resources management and organizational leadership. Brian then worked as an instructional designer for Marist College, helping to build programs that helped faculty build high-quality online and hybrid courses. 

Brian completed his doctorate at Teachers College-Columbia University, studying Adult Learning and Leadership. His dissertation was on self-directed learning behaviors among adults in online course discussion forums. He has written and presented on strategies for improving online interaction, as well as on techniques for collaborative, cross-functional instructional design. He has also been an adjunct faculty member in Marist’s School of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the business certificate program at SPS.
