Service Opportunities at SPS

Full-time faculty are encouraged to engage with these resources to continually improve their teaching and to further develop as scholar-practitioners.

  • Faculty service is essential to the success of the University as it contributes to the intellectual vitality, operational effectiveness, and continuous improvement of the academic community. It is a fundamental professional responsibility that extends beyond classroom teaching and research.

It is also a required component of the full-time faculty review process, which evaluates a faculty member’s documented record of service to their program, SPS, the University, and to their profession such as:

  • Record of leadership responsibilities within program (e.g., serving as Program Director/Associate Director)
  • Academic or career advising
  • Admissions reviews
  • Committee membership
  • Mentorship of colleagues, faculty, graduate students, etc.
  • Participating in professional organizations
    • Faculty who are looking for assistance in identifying professional service opportunities should contact their respective Program Director
  • Reviewing publications
  • Organizing conferences
  • Serving on editorial boards
