Many moons ago, I approached my colleague Domi Enders with an ambitious idea for an educational technology blog. As a long-time blogger who gained experience in writing teenage angst-filled Xanga and Livejournal entries, I wanted to bring my writing skills into the professional realm and showcase the business writing skills I’ve harnessed over time (with help from our very own, award-winning professor in Strategic Communication, Kevin Visconti).
The blog idea soon spiraled into the comprehensive Design and Innovation website, and our team proudly unveiled the site after many months of brainstorming, planning, and building. The website is meant to serve as a valuable resource for SPS faculty, and as a platform for our Curriculum and Instruction unit to share relevant research and insights on how we leverage educational technology, media, and instructional design to optimize the learning experience for our students.
And so it is with mixed feelings that I write my final post as a member of the SPS community. After working here for a little over a year and a half and building a strong foundation in learning management system administration, training, and support, I’ve landed a great opportunity working in Central IT at “that other large university” in NYC, and will be fulfilling my lifelong dream of working in a library.
Thanks to the amazing experiences I’ve had here at SPS, I feel well-prepared to tackle the challenges that lie ahead, from organizing edtech workshops, to creating self-paced learning resources, to holding consultations about course design with faculty. If you’re reading this post, there’s a very good chance that I have a specific story (or five) about you and how you have helped me grow as a leader in the realm of educational technology and faculty development. “Thank you” doesn’t begin to cover my gratitude, but it’ll have to do, before this turns into another novel.
On a more uplifting note, I want to take a moment to introduce you to the newest two members of the Online Support team….meet Nick Salamun, Platform Support Specialist, and Joni Murphy, Webinar Specialist!. Nick and Joni are settling in well here in our main office at the Yard (Columbus Circle), and you will meet them very soon (if you haven’t already), especially as the team gears up for the next round of Canvas and Zoom training sessions for Fall 2018. I know you will enjoy working with them.
Again, thank you to my stellar team, the entire Academic Affairs unit, and our fantastic faculty and course facilitators for making it a pleasure to work at SPS. Onward to the next adventure!
